Cutesy couple names
The habit of combining characters’ names to make a couple name did not become popular until the aging of the characters in Belle’s generation. During the first 30 or 35 years of Days, only Bo and Hope went by their combined name ("Bope"). Therefore, a disproportionate number of these names are for younger couples.
Many fans of classic couples still prefer the older system of calling a couple by its initials. A few of the most popular couples have their initials reserved to them and you are expected to know this even if the couple left the show before you were born. Otherwise you will be drug out and shot, especially if you are posting at the Coffee Rooms. You didn’t think that soap slang was an easy language to pick up, did you?
B/H: Bo/Hope
D/J: Doug/Julie
J/A: Justin/Adrienne
J/J or JJ or JnJ: Jack/Jennifer
J/M: John/Marlena
M/M: Mickey/Maggie
P/K: Patch/Kayla (Patch’s name is actually Steve, but S/K is reserved for the older couple below.)
S/K: Shane/Kimberly
On to the combination names. These are some of the more common ones, but the list is not comprehensive because people have a habit of making up new names on a daily basis, darn it.
Boner: Bo and Jennifer The term is derogatory; a "boner" is a bad idea in addition to a sexual reference. Bo and Jennifer were teased as a couple when Jennifer returned to Salem in late 2000, but thus far they have never actually been involved.
Bope: Bo and Hope
Bloe or Blo-me: Brady and Chloe, derogatory
Bore: Brady and Chloe, derogatory
Brami: Brandon and Sami
Bricole or Bracole: Brady and Nicole
Broccoli: Brady and Nicole, derogatory
Broe: Brady and Chloe. Once acknowledged by Days in the guise of "Judge Broe," who threw Brady in jail. No word in why is wasn’t "Judge Phloe" since he was locking Brady up. Fans of this couple are called Broers and are infamous for their wars with Phloers.
Brexie: Brandon and Lexie. Brexie Sex or Brexie Moanfest refers to the one time Brexie consummated their relationship rather graphically with a long orgasm from Lexie.
Brimi: Brady and Mimi
Caustin: Carrie and Austin
Chill or Phassie: Philip and Cassie
Chleukemia: Chloe and leukemia. Personally, I preferred this pairing to either Broe or Phloe.
CousinsShelle or CousinsSchmelley: Shawn and Belle, derogatory. They are not actually cousins by blood, but their near relationship turns off many longtime viewers. For example: at birth, Belle was believed to be Roman’s daughter and thus Shawn’s blood cousin; Belle used Roman’s last name until 1999, when Shawn began flirting with her; Belle’s father was brainwashed into thinking he was Roman throughout Shawn’s childhood, meaning that Shawn called John "Uncle Roman;" some of Shawn’s blood cousins still call John "uncle" out of respect for the once-presumed relationship; Belle’s maternal half-siblings Sami and Eric share a grandmother (Caroline) with Shawn; and Belle’s paternal half-brother Brady shares a grandfather (Victor) with Shawn.
Jackifer or Jeck: Jack and Jennifer; not strictly derisive, but not the abbreviation of choice for most die-hard fans, who call the couple by its initials and themselves JnJers.
Jami: Jack and Sami. Jami is the most common nickname as the friends got into and out of several jams during their short acquaintance. Sometimes "Put on your JAMIS and hop in the SACK." See also Sack or Smack.
JAM: John and Marlena, semi-derisive. Derisive name for their fans is Jammers. See also ToeJAM.
Jelle: Jason and Belle. Jason was such a minor character that the writers forgot his last name from appearance to appearance, but he developed a small internet following with both Mimi and Belle.
Jope: John and Hope. Often "Just say nope to Jope." See also SubSex.
Katman or Rate: Roman and Kate
Lassie: Lucas and Cassie. The audience knew that they were half-siblings as they rounded third base, thus the reference to the famous border collie.
Lumi: Lucas and Sami. Often "Simply Lumi-nous." Ali Sweeney’s original reaction: "That’s the weirdest combination of our names, but it’s better than Shelle." Pictured above.
MarJohn: John and Marlena
Mason: Jason and Mimi. Jason was such a minor character that the writers forgot his last name from appearance to appearance, but he developed a small internet following with both Mimi and Belle.
Nicotine: Nicole and Austin
Phassie or Chill: Philip and Cassie
Phelle: Philip and Belle. Often "I phelle for Phelle; if I wanted a Shelle, I’d go to the beach."
Phimi: Philip and Mimi
Phloe: Philip and Chloe
Phlop: Philip and Chloe, derogatory; sometimes used for Philip alone
Phlex: Philip and Rex. Coined by Kyle Brandt and Eric Winter, who encourage event-attending fans who want to take a picture with them to request a "Phlex Sandwich."
Rate or Katman: Roman and Kate
Rimi or Remi: Rex and Mimi
Rolena: Roman and Marlena
Sack or Smack: Jack and Sami. Smack refers to Sami slapping Jack after their one true kiss. Sometimes "Put on your JAMIS and hop in the SACK." See also Jami.
Saustin: Sami and Austin
Sex: Shawn and Rex. Some fans think that the contentious cousins are using Belle and Mimi as a cover for their real feelings.
Shan: Shawn and Jan
Shassie: Shawn and Cassie
Shelle: Shawn and Belle
Shimi: Shawn and Mimi
Smelle: Shawn and Belle, derogatory
ToeJAM: Extremely derisive nickname for John and Marlena that actually seems to upset some of their fans.
