I love Will, but if I were Sami I'd be grounding him until he's fifty for the way he talks to her. I know she's done some things that aren't great, but he's her child and should not be talking to his mother that way.

This is something that will probably have many different points of views because there are so many different points of view about raising children and parent/child interactions. To me there is a difference between disrespect and an honest expression of emotions. Will has a lot of reasons to feel angry, hurt and even frightened for his mother's safety. IMO, at the age of 16, Will expressed those emotions with more restraint and maturity than Sami is capable of doing even now and better than Lucas was capable of doing 3 or 4 years ago.

Not only has Will grown up watching Lumi lash out at each other without any consideration for what they said to each other, he watched his mother as an adult say hateful, cruel things to her parents (not all of it undeserved but it still set an example.) However, I still don't think that any of Sami's past behaviors would make it okay for Will to treat her badly, I just think his reaction to the news about Grace was reasonable. I think Lumi are great parents, they have flaws like everyone but they did a good job with Will. He somehow managed to learn better communication skills than I would have expected.

I'm actually more concerned about Sami's imitation of her own parents. She lied to Will for weeks and when he called her on it, she tried to emotionally manipulate him with her tears. Then, she went so far as to actually blame him for going to Switzerland, when it was her own behavior that sent him running out of the country. Will was expressing very legitimate concerns and she blew them off by asking him if he was upset about a new baby being in the house --- that remark showed a lot of disrespect for Will and actually demonstrated the emotional abandonment that Will was expressing.

i think it's a miracle that will turned out to be as normal as he did considering how he was raised. sami used him to get austin to stay with her when she thought austin was his father, and don't forget that both sami and lucas used him to both hurt each other.

I agree that it's remarkable how maturely Will communicates considering his childhood, and don't have a problem with what he said to Sami as she continued to lie to him and weave a web that will blow up lots of lives.

But while Lumi's hijinks gave Will a rough childhood, I don't think Sami using him to manipulate Austin really contributed. For one thing, that was over before Will was two years old, so he doesn't remember it the way he remembers, say, Lumi's failed weddings and custody battles. He may not remember at all. And Sami didn't "use" him in a way that hurt him. She mostly said "Austin, Will wants to spend time with you." And Will DID want to spend time with Austin, and loves him to this day.
Do you remember what she told him? She took her lover’s hand, and she said, “just because something is intangible doesn't mean that it's not real.” Lucas, no matter what happens, no matter what we’ve been through, no matter what I say, you will always be in my heart. -- Sami Brady, November 2007

I have an opinion on this topic b/c I have personally been going through this. I had a rocky childhood to say the least and you have all this anger and resentment that builds up inside of you. I finally was able to express mine to my mother in a calm and rational manner after going to therapy, so I have to agree that Will was very mature and didn't "cross a line" with his speech. It wasn't harsh....it was just how he felt!

Very good viewpoints, I guess I just grew up that you speak to your parents with respect, even if you're upset lol. Anyhow, thanks for all the replies.
