Sometime this summer, I'm sure I'll start hating Mia and Will and their crowd of airtime-hogging friends as they embark on a hideous storyline like Touch the Sky or Prepubescent Orgy Island Temptation Island.

But for now, they have a much better relationship than the Salemites twice their age. I actually understand why they like each other, and they treat each other well. That's not true of any other couple on the show at the moment (excepting the seldom-seen Bo and Hope).

I love that Will and Mia do fun things together, expand each other's horizons, and make each other laugh: Will wearing the dunce cap after he lost at ski-ball, Will trying to teach Mia to play baseball, Mia trying to teach Will to dance. When was the last time we saw or heard about a Salem couple just hanging out that way? No, Sami forgetting that she knows how to fish and falling in the damn river does NOT count.

I love that when Mia gushes to her cousin or Nicole about how sweet or kind Will is, it doesn't feel like character-pimping or couple pimping because we've seen Will be kind, whether he's sharing his notes, buying her a hamburger, encouraging her to hold Grace, or attending an AA meeting with her.

I love that when Will talks about how honest Mia is, there's more to it than the irony of Mia having One Big Secret. She IS straightforward about most things: whether she wants to go out, what she wants to do, what interests her. She even considered not studying with Will because she felt like she should face the consequences of not paying attention in class. And of course, she wants to tell Will the Big Secret and is getting manipulated and blackmailed at every turn by Nicole and Brady.

I love that Mia showed up at Will's game and cheered him on. Is there any chance that Dan or Lucas knows anything about what operas Chloe likes to perform? How many times has Stephanie tried to tell Philip to change everything about his career?

And most of all, I love that someone appears to appreciate our Will who we watched grow up. (h)

Go Wiia!

Do you remember what she told him? She took her lover’s hand, and she said, “just because something is intangible doesn't mean that it's not real.” Lucas, no matter what happens, no matter what we’ve been through, no matter what I say, you will always be in my heart. -- Sami Brady, November 2007

You summed it up really well. Now if Dena doesn't do a horrible summer story, it will be great.

Excellent!! ICAM on every one of your points!! The adults of Salem could learn a lot from those two.

Interestingly, no persuasive spin interviews are needed to promote this couple either. No one has to tell viewers what we are supposed to be seeing happen between Will and Mia - we just see it.

Awesome post as usual! That's really saying something on the state of things these days. But it's nice to see and everything we all wish for for Will.

I totally agree! They are the only people to have a normal relationship. :) I always say that couples that start out as friends have the best relationships and last the longest. I'm excited to see what will come their way.

I agree, I am enjoying watching them. They will have some problems down the road as the baby s/l comes out but I think they are working on making them a strong enough young couple to handle it. But they sure are sweet together right now!
