This week's SOD features interviews with Suzanne Rogers, Kristian Alfonso and Ken Corday. Maggie has talked Mickey into taking some time off in the new year and going on a cruise with her, because Doug and Julie are always going on cruises and saying how wonderful they are. Mickey is upstairs packing, and Maggie goes upstairs to begin her packing. She finds Mickey on the floor. Suzanne Rogers explains, "There is no real 'my finding him dead on the floor', because they couldn't use John Clarke. Someone came in and they put a sheet over the person to take them out. That's kind of what you use to play off of when you're playing scenes like this, so it was a lot of soul-searching on my part to get to that place." Rogers continues that the pictures of John around the set helped her, because she remembered when the pictures were taken. She says the flashbacks will feature John Clarke, and "even the fans who don't know about Mickey and Maggie together will see enough flashbacks to get a sense of who they were and enjoy it." Maggie goes downstairs, and Hope comes over because she brought Mickey a present. Hope's going on about the present, when she sees that Maggie's not responding to what she's saying. Maggie tells Hope what's happened, and Hope goes to make arrangements and break the news to Alice. SOD says that Hope "will also turn to Bo in the aftermath". Ken Corday discusses the reasons for making this "very difficult decision". He says that the show was "never really successful" in recasting Mickey. "When an actor wears a character for almost 40 years, it's impossible to recast them." He continues that because of this, the show had Maggie just talking about Mickey, but "after a while, that got tired". Corday says that he and Dena Higley discussed this, "and she said, 'You know, Suzanne right now is commanding a lot of airtime. I'd like to tell a bigger story with her.' And I said, 'Wow, that's awfully big.'" Corday says that the decision was made to have Maggie try to deal with the grief of losing Mickey, "and in dealing with that grief, kick off another story with her". Suzanne Rogers then discusses her feelings about the story. She says that Gary Tomlin was the one who informed her that Mickey would be killed off, and she says she was "shocked". She continues, "Since I first came on the show, there was Mickey and Maggie... I said, 'Well, we haven't seen him in a long time, guess you have to tie things up', so this is the route they chose to go." Rogers says it's sad that "it's another Horton gone... it's going to be heartbreaking." Kristian Alfonso gives her reaction to the story: "It's the end of an era. It's so sad; it's sad for Kristian as well, because it's over." She praises Suzanne's acting, and she says the scenes were "beautifully written". "But of course, it's difficult." Suzanne Rogers called John Clarke to tell him. She says it was Thanksgiving when she called, and she had a nice conversation with Clarke and his wife Patty. He told her that he'd already heard about it, because someone had sent them the scripts. Rogers says she didn't want to be the one to tell Clarke, but she felt he should know before it aired. Rogers says John Clarke seemed "fine" with it, and she told him she hopes she can do it justice. Corday praises Rogers for this, and he says it shows "how deeply concerned this actress is, not just for herself, but for castmates who have gone from the show." Corday concludes, "It was well thought out, and in the end a lot of drama comes out of these shows." He says that Maggie "has now become the matriarch of the show", and Suzanne is such a capable actress, but she "had been without story for many decades", so it's good to see her in story again. Some of us knew that five years ago, before you repeatedly tried to recast!!
Ooo! From now on, they aren't going to do things that are tired?
And she knows that the show can't be trusted to share casting decisions with the actors who will be emotionally impacted...
How many decades is "many?" Just curious. Maggie had story with the SSK, and while I know I'm getting old, I'm quite sure that wasn't many decades ago.
Please don't talk about Hortons and trees after what you did to the Christmas Eve episode. |

Can I please ask what they are smoking at the Burbank Studios lately? What is he thinking...new branch....don't tell me you got rid of Lucas to make Rafe a Horton...that will make me hurl.... |

I have to chuckle. I used to watch GH religiously. One day I tuned in and my beloved Lesley was on a gurney with a sheet over her head. She was a 17 year vet of the show, it's leading lady, and they didn't even give her a goodbye scene--wait, that sounds familar! There are a lot of ways to pay homage to Mickey and Maggie. I'm curious to see if Days will even attempt anything beyond a sheet. |

I almost spilled out my water.....Erica you made me Lol....oh my! Samlena boinking on the coffin.....lol... I'm going to try to see if Ali actually answers back a tweet about Lumi...has anyone attempted to ask if Syd's vigil was the last lumi scene? I would assume the reason Lucas came back from rehab was to attend the funeral and the Philip's wedding...if not I think that would have been his exit ladies.... |

I don't think Lucas leaving was a done deal when he came back from rehab. I get the impression that contract negotiations broke off after that was shot. |

I asked her. Aimee asked her. No response to either of us. I'm a little shocked that she hasn't direct messaged me to scold me for not being positive in my tweets (kidding, I don't think she'd dare at this juncture). She seems to be avoiding tweets about Days completely now. She tweeted about BL starting on Tuesday, so I tweeted back that I will be boycotting all NBC shows. Now she's tweeting about the weather, and New Years diet detox, lol. I almost tweeted her to ask if BL's "Second Chances" season last year was suggested by her since she likely knew we were about to be torpedoed, but I'll save that one for a day when I'm really ticked off about all things Days related. |

Oh, agreed. I just don't think this was a flat-out firing where Days said it wouldn't have Bryan for any price and planned Lucas' exit before they even discussed whether he would stay. |

Yeah, the fact that they were actually negotiating means they did want to keep him on some level. I know of other cases in the past where they've simply declined to make any offers. |

maybe the producers told her to not do anything days related over tweet...she was stringing both safes and rapemis at one point a few weeks back....did you guys see what the Jude lady replied to me...I guess she was offended in some way about my answer to what I wanted to see in 2010....did she really expect us to actually give her ideas....she's flippin..yeah she didn't know about Bry but realistically if TPTB would care about what the fans want they wouldn't be doing what they do.... |

Yeah, I saw Judie's reply. I think she sincerely didn't know, but kind of makes one wonder what the point of asking the audience about anything is when TIIC are going to do what they want no matter what. Why even bother? |

Yep...that is what I was trying to get across....maybe Stephanie is next to get cut...she originally asked for her story ideas after Lucas'....and let's face it the triangle is gonna be Philip/Mel/Nathan....Stephanie is sort of out of the picture... |

I was reading the SOD with this article and did anyone notice something....when Kenny is talking about the "Horton Family Tree" he says before that well with Lucas and Nathan in Salem....does anyone actually think that these idiots might recast for Lucas? I don't even want to think about that possibility but with them really not writing him off or killing him...that worries me...why would he say that knowing this article would be coming out after the announcement that Bryan was let go... |

They actually think that Rafe & Sami can substitute for John & Marlena so I'd say their stupidity knows no limits. Of course, since this is Kenny, it is just as likely that either he forgot about Bryan's contract, didn't know about it and/or just straight out lied. |

btw, the article likely would have been done in the week before Christmas break. I don't think they made their final decision until that week. And even without Lucas around, his branch of the tree is still there with Will and Allie. |
