March 19, 2010 NBC RENEWS ACCLAIMED DAYTIME DRAMA 'DAYS OF OUR LIVES' THROUGH 2010-11 SEASON Hit Series Will Celebrate Its 45th Anniversary in November UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - March 19, 2010 - NBC has picked up hit daytime drama "Days of our Lives" for its 45th season, keeping the long-running show on the network through the 2010-11 television season, it was announced today by Marc Graboff, Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "'Days of our Lives' continues to be a favorite of the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 45th season," said Graboff. "'Days' has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively." Bruce Evans, Senior Vice President, Drama Programming, NBC Entertainment, added, "The producers, cast and crew have worked tirelessly to make 'Days' the ratings success it is today. Today's renewal is a true testament to all of their hard work. We could not be more delighted for them and for the multiple generations of fiercely loyal 'Days of our Lives' fans." The acclaimed daytime drama will celebrate its 45th anniversary on Monday, November 8. "Days of our Lives" (Monday-Friday, 1-2 p.m. in most markets; check local listings) first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. Today, it remains a consistent favorite among viewers of daytime television serials and is currently tied for #2 for the season among all daytime dramas in women 18-49 and women 18-34. Through 25 weeks of the 2009-10 season, "Days" is averaging 3.3 million viewers, its highest average at this point in the season in three years and a 10 percent increase over its audience of one year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Days" is also delivering year-to-year gains among women 18-49 and women 25-54. In its 44-plus years, "Days of our Lives" has garnered numerous Emmy Awards and nominations, as well as multiple Soap Opera Digest and People's Choice Awards. "Days of our Lives" is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Bradys, the Hortons and the DiMeras, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. "Days of our Lives" is produced by Corday Productions Inc., in association with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producer Ken Corday is following in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created "Days of our Lives" and helmed the series for many years. It was an option on their current contract. Personally, I think NBC realized that it has had a truly horrible year, publicity-wise, and cancelling Days just before it hits its 45 year anniversary would only make things worse. |

I don't think they will get renewed beyond next year. |

^^ I agree. I was thinking they may have just wanted to get to the 45 year mark and then let it slip peacefully into the night ... I don't know, though ... if they brought back Bry (and a few other vets) and got rid of most (if not all) of the newbies, they might have a ratings surge that carries them to 50 years. They would have to give Sami her brain back and kill the rapist, though. |

^^The more I think the more it can happen. The rapist is at a point that everyone has said how the person that was responsible for this should be killed, Sami, Stefano, Anna and Victor to name a few have said it. Now if Sami gets her brains back and kills EJ, Stefano can then try to avenge his son's death......enter Lucas.....who would scheme with Sami against the Dimera's (including his mother) and Rafe will be left flapping in the wind...perfect opportunity actually and you know what they wouldn't have to worry about ratings until about November of this year...so how about killing the monster of during May sweeps and by November sweeps (or sooner Lucas is interrupting Safe's wedding)... |

I wish they would just allow it to go off the air, definitely after another year. With them canceling Another World 10 or so years ago, Guiding Light off the air last year and them shutting As the World Turns down later this year and with Days dead to me, except for all the great returns which will only be a few episodes for Alice this year, I'm all out of daytime shows. I'll be happy with the great clips I can watch of the great storylines and characters of yesteryear of all my shows on youtube. |

I think EJ's days are numbered. The so-called actor has told his fans to write in, the character is written into a corner with no redeeming qualities and his fans are in a panic, even organizing a campaign to flood mainstream Days boards with rapemi posts--you know their routine. Too bad the moderators are on to them. They are in panic mode. We won't even go into the status of their "charity" event. If EJ goes I'll cheer, but I think the damage the pimping of that one character had done since he got to Salem has really killed the show. |

That directive came from the FL site, who are now crying foul that their master plan to rule the message boards is out in the open. Whatever. I'm glad one of the 4900 spies at that site spilled the beans. They've been pulling this crap for years and then when confronted, they boo hoo and play the victim. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. I'm just sorry they hit Barb's site. She handled it well. |

This surprises me. Alice's death is the perfect way to end the series. And the networks can do whatever they want. They didn't have to renew, just string everything along till the November anniversary and end the show. |

You wanna know how many people at that site aren't spies...I would say there are about 100 true blue followers..or how many people were at their last James chat...I heard it was about 200 or so (100 true blue and 100 spies....lol).....and Kenny at DR mentioned something about him/her probably being banned from that other site by morning.. ..I guess they ban members when they don't even break the rules? That is their tactic and it's been that way for years, they want to "prove to TPTB" that they are the largest fanbase, but it's kind of hard to prove that all of the 5000 members they claim to have on their site are ALL true rapemi fans....unlike Second Chances and other boards that particular fanbase board is "private" meaning unlike here where you can read stuff without signing in, you can't access any portion of their site without actually creating an account, it adds to their numbers but at the end of the day they don't have 5K loyal followers because of the way they run their board. |

They contradict their own claim to having 5000 true blue fans by the very fact that they also whine about having spies in their midst. Of course they contradict themselves a lot so nothing new there. I think what they really mean is that they are the biggest baddest group on the playground until all the other kiddies arrive and then they are suddenly running for the teacher crying that they have been outnumbered and "bullied".
