Sorry this chapter took me so long to write up....I finally finished it and I hope you like it. The next one will come out sooner rather than later... The characters belong to Corday/NBC/Days of Our Lives. The story is all mine. Author: Luvinglumi Rating: PG-13 Permission for 2C to archive The previous chapter of this fic is here: Total Darkness-Chapter 3. Total Darkness (Chapter 4) Emily and Philip walked slowly away from the door to the room. They realized that whatever was happening was something that they shouldn’t interrupt. As they walked away from the door Emily looked at Philip and said, “Maybe this will trigger his memory and he’ll remember something more from his past.” Emily seemed to be extremely saddened by that prospect and Philip noted the change in her demeanor from the time she witnessed the kiss. “What’s wrong Emily? What’s bothering you?” “It’s nothing Philip. I’m not sure what’s happening.” “In regards to?” “Your brother. I don’t know.” Emily was stammering and Philip noted how nervous she appeared to be simply discussing Lucas with him. “If I’d known you better I would swear that I think you have developed something for my brother.” Emily looked over at Philip and smiled. “It’s funny you mention that because I’ve been trying to masquerade these feelings I’ve been having lately because my job wouldn’t allow anything to ever happen with a patient, especially some kind of romantic connection.” “Well, you are not a very good actress because it’s shining through that façade of yours.” “I’m confused really; I don’t know what I’m feeling for sure. I’ve only felt remotely this way about only one other person in my life and that was my fiancée. I haven’t seen him in a while and I found Lucas to be so charming, so interesting and you know your brother is an incredibly handsome man.” “So you were engaged to be married?” “Yes, his name was Rafael, he was very good to me, we were so in love, but it’s a long story and I don’t want to bore you with what went on and realistically I don’t want to even talk about it.” “Oh, no problem, don’t worry about Lucas he might come around. Him and Sami, although very close have had some very tumultuous times and maybe he might not feel too inclined to be with her again. Plus, she’s with someone now and if he found that out he wouldn’t want to break that up if he believed she loved that man. I know my brother.” “Well like I said, I can’t really think about anything now as he is still my patient, but boy are my feelings bubbling over.” Philip laughed out loud at Emily’s honesty and told her to hold on, that she didn’t know what would happen in the future and that all hope isn’t lost. Lucas would soon be written out of her patient list and she could look to a better future ahead and if that included his brother then that would be great for her. “My brother is a very loyal man. Weather a friend, son, brother or lover; he always does his best to please those around him.” Emily smiled at him and nodded in agreement. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lucas was completely enjoying the kiss but the memories and quick flashbacks had turned from something positive to something negative. He remembered her accusing him of child abuse. He also remembered her telling him how much she hated him; how she wished he would be dead. He also flashed quickly to her death row scene and him running in claiming to have done something in order to save her. He remembered Italy and giving her mouth to mouth in an attempt to save her life, but then remembered how he had to sign over custody of his son and how he almost died in a fire. Lucas was confused and he didn’t know what to believe. Sami kept trying to prolong the kiss and had already wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him in closer, but Lucas drowning in that awful jumble of memories pulled away, pushed her slightly off him and stopped the kiss. “Stop, I can’t continue.” Lucas said. “What, but Lucas?” Sami pleaded. “Listen, I’m confused, something happened, I’m remembering more and more.” He was hesitant and didn’t want to talk about it, but he knew that Sami wouldn’t stop asking. “You did? That is great! What did you remember? Did you remember anything about us?” Sami said with a note of excitement in her voice. “Yes, but now I’m even more confused than I was before. What I remember isn’t good.” In an attempt to get him to open up with both hands Sami comforted Lucas by grabbing a hold of both his shoulders. “But tell me; please I can help you decipher what your thoughts might be.” “No, I can’t go through this, not now.” I’m too tired. “But Lucas, please.” “Stop, I want you to go. Where is Emily?” “Emily? Lucas, please talk to me. Don’t push me away, don’t do this to me. Tell me what you remember, I can explain it, put it in context and maybe that’ll trigger another memory, I don’t know. It’s worth a try.” “Well at first I had a great memory apparently of you and me kissing. A passionate filled kiss just like the one we just had. Then things changed and I got some awful flashbacks. It looked like you were accusing me of stuff I know I would never do to Will. Then you’re on death row and I’m running in to stop it. That was so draining just remembering that. Then the next memory I had was of me with a freaking weird surfer dude look and I’m giving you mouth to mouth.” “Well I was on death row, but I won’t get into the details and you did run in and stop it. Listen Lucas, you and I were best of friends when we were in our teens. I trusted you and you trusted me. It was a real solid friendship. A lot happened to me. I got raped and I trusted you enough to tell you. You went out of your way to make me feel better about myself while all of Salem ridiculed me and believed the rapist over me. But you never wavered, you believed in me when no one did and I was so grateful to you. You made me feel wanted for once in my life and that was when we made love and conceived Will. We were just kids Lucas.” “So then, if we were so close and we made love how could it have turned out that you accused me of abusing my own son? Why did you want me dead? Why did my mother hate you so much?” “Well the story is rather long and I’m not sure you want to hear it, I think you wouldn’t think very highly of me if I told you everything the way it played out, but I’ll tell you Lucas somewhere after all those memories you just had we fell in love and I loved you like I’ve loved no other man in my life. I would give my life for you if I had to. You have to believe me. What I’m saying is true.” “Sami, I need some space. All these memories and flashbacks, the bad ones outweigh the good ones and I’m sorry but I am not sure what is going on anymore.” “But Lucas, you were able to describe me and you didn’t remember me. Your thoughts and your memories are of me. Don’t you realize that? Don’t you see that something had to happen after we conceived Will and after all those hateful memories. Our love was powerful, strong enough to make it through all those awful things you are remembering now, stronger than anything I’ve ever felt before.” “So, what happened? Then what? Why aren’t we together? If you say our love was so strong to move mountains. Why couldn’t we be together, why aren’t I with you now? Listen, I don’t doubt what you are saying, but I need to speak to others to find out what might be going on. Maybe Philip has some insight or maybe my mom does. “Your mother? She is one of the reasons we aren’t together Lucas. She is the reason I couldn’t see you here and your brother made arrangements for us to come before visiting hours so we wouldn’t run into her. She kept me away from you while you were in the coma, but I managed to sneak in and see you every day anyway. She has tried her best to destroy us over and over again and she’s achieved it primarily. She doesn’t want me anywhere near you and she hates me.” “She hates you? There must be good reason then, right? This is so very confusing. I don’t know how to react and I need to stop this before I go crazy.” Lucas got up from the chair and kicked the chair away. He was frustrated and angry and he didn’t know what to do or say. He simply then said the words that Sami really didn’t want to hear. “Listen, I’m going to be leaving here in a few days and I’ll be living on my own again with my disability. I want to have a relationship with my son again and I would like you to cooperate with that if possible. If you stop me in any way, shape, or form, I’ll go for full custody.” “Okay, I would never keep you from your children again, remember you not only have Will, we have Allie too and she’s been dying to see her daddy.” Just then Lucas realized that there had to be more to this story. Something had to have happened after all that he remembered to be able to start a relationship with her again and have another child. He knew that there was more to that story but he didn’t want to explore it now. “I will have Emily call you and arrange for the kids to come and visit me.” “Why can’t you call me? Why Emily? Will she be living with you or something?” “Actually, she will be. Her contract has her coming over to my house and basically “living” with me if I so desire. I’ll need help around the house and although she won’t be sleeping over she will tuck me in at night.” Lucas chuckled and knew that those words would sting at Sami and in a way he loved making her jealous, he didn’t know why but he figured she would be seething right about now. Sami was furious and she hated the idea of Emily being around Lucas constantly. “Well to each their own, you know, if you would have offered I could have moved in with you to assist you, but I guess you don't want anyone around but your precious Emily. You can enjoy her and have fun. I should have never gotten my hopes up and I should really devote my time to the one man that I know loves me. Oh and by the way, Emily wasn’t around when you were laying in a coma for months with no response. Someone triggered you out of that coma and her name was NOT Emily.” “What was her name? Sami or Scami.” Sami turned around pointing a finger toward Lucas who couldn’t see her, but knew the reaction of that word would cause her to stop dead in her tracks; he shifted his look to where her voice was coming from. “You remember? That was your nickname for me then.” “I know.” “Do you remember what my nickname for you was then?” “No, I don’t. What was it?” “I’m not going to tell you. You will remember soon.” “It won’t matter if I don’t remember, the past is the past and it’ll stay in the past. I really am not looking forward to remembering any other stuff really.” Sami was hurt by his remark and her eyes welled. She turned around and said goodbye to Lucas and told him to have Emily call her when he was home and ready to receive his kids. “I’ll have Emily do just that!” Sami picked up her purse and slowly turned and took a look at Lucas who just happened to be looking back toward her direction. He had a smile from ear to ear and she hated that. Sami didn’t know why she hated seeing him smiling, and maybe it was just that he was smiling about Emily and not her. It hurt her but she had to move on and she would. For all intents and purposes Lucas was remembering more and more about his past and pretty soon he would be able to piece everything together. The bad memories with the good ones, but now he was getting ready to start his new life, without his eyesight but with a renewed hope of a better tomorrow. He was looking forward to spending time with his kids and getting to know them again. Lucas would be going home in just a few days and Emily would be following him to help around the home. Unbenounced to Emily, Lucas was looking forward to that part the most and he wanted to be off her patient list to see where the relationship would end up. He was ready to start again and felt a certain attraction to Emily. After the accident, the coma and memory loss, he needed to start once more from scratch. Something worried him however; in the back of his mind he imagined Emily as Sami, her look, her spirit and the sense of adventure that drew him toward her. Emily however wasn’t Sami and that would be difficult for him to comprehend, because in his mind he really didn’t know who Sami was but he wanted Emily to be her, and he found that extremely odd. Oh the Lumi angst but I am glad to see Sami jealous of Emily already so what is Sami going to do in order to stop Emily from being with Lucas the plot thickens. What is Rafe going to think when he sees his fiancee is back in town hmm. Maybe Rafe and Sami will have the same goal in common after all to stop Emily and Lucas from hooking up and to reunite with the people they love Rafe with Emily and Sami with Lucas. What are Rafe and Sami going to do to keep this from happening I am truly interested in see what they do. I love this story and I can't wait to see what you are going to write for Rafe and Emily and Lucas and Sami next two couples who are truly meant to be together Emily and Rafe and Lucas and Sami. I can't wait to see what happens next for these four people and can't wait to read about their reunions and their romances Lucas and Sami's and Emily and Rafe's. I love this story and can't wait to see what happens next for this story truly rocks.
