With these chapters, we have the entrance of the Characters from Dark Shadows, Barnabas Collins, Victoria Winters, and Angelique Bouchard. One of my little tributes to the former soap. And they are, in my mind, played by the same actors that played the characters in the 1991 revival. Enjoy!!! Chapter Six Christmas Eve Part One The lights on the tree glowed in the apartment of one Lucas Horton. His first Christmas spent alone, or almost alone. Allie happily played with her toys in the corner. He thought about the letter his aunt had told him about & what Eric believed. Flashback “Why would Eric say that this isn’t Sami?” Lucas asked his aunt. “Because he doesn’t feel a connection to her at all. He hasn’t felt a connection to her since the Stan debacle. He says it couldn’t be Sami that has been here since then & he can’t believe that you can’t tell the difference,” Maggie told him. “There wasn’t anything to throw me off about her at all,” Lucas said. Julie has spoken up. “She may have been trained to be Sami & therefore the only way to tell would be DNA but even the Dimeras would know to change that,” she said. End flashback Lucas had thought long & hard & could feel that Eric was right, but he did not mention it to anyone else, least of all, Chloe. With less than two months to go till their wedding, he didn’t want to ruin that. The big problem about that was the fact that Chloe was trying to get the wedding moved forward or was trying to get Lucas to leave town with her. Lucas wondered why she was so desperate to do so, but he knew it may have to do with the good doctor Daniel Jonas. He just would not leave Chloe alone. Chloe wasn’t here, of course. She was spending Christmas Even at her parent’s place. She would be spending Christmas day with him & Allie. There was only one person he was thinking about this Christmas & that was Will. He felt horrible that his eldest son wasn’t able to spend Christmas with his father & little sister. -------------------------------- “Pretty tree!” Isabella declared as she & her siblings entered the grand hall of the Wells Estate in Bordeaux. “It is twelve feet tall, Isabella. A very hard tree to decorate,” Reyna said. Behind them, Sami, Megan & Armand stood. Sami knew her kids would be amazed by the tree. At the convent they had a very simply decorated tree, along with an Advent wreath & of course, a nativity scene. Sami was happy that they finally were able to leave the convent that had been their home for over three years. Even though it wasn’t home for Salem, at least it was part way there. Another month & a half & they would finally be home. “I’m sure there are several Christmas trees throughout the house,” Sami said. “Of course. We even got a new tree & decorations so that the five of you can decorate it,” Megan said. “Megan, you didn’t have to do that! We could’ve gone without it,” Sami said. “I thought you’d want to decorate your first tree this year rather than waiting until next year to do so,” Megan said. “It won’t be our entire family, though. We’re missing dad as well as missing the Horton Tree,” Will said. “Alice is going to have a lot of work to do for next year’s tree. Adding EJ as well as Nicole & the new baby, plus the three of you,” Sami said. “Yep. They’ll be a new full branch on the tree next year,” Will said. “After all, Hope accepted Chelsea as a part of the family even though she is her stepdaughter.” “Very true. I think that Hope will understand this one. After all, you were doing your best to protect EJ from Stefano when he was young,” Sami said to Megan. “I hope she will. My son deserves to be a part of his true family. EJ is her stepson whether she likes it or not,” Megan said. “These days, she is not as trusting as she used to be. After all, look at what Stefano did to her,” Sami said. “Father went too far with what he did to her. But she has to learn to live with it all. None of what happened was her fault,” Megan said. “And she should understand that I did what I did with EJ was to protect him from father & his influence, not to hid him from his true family.” “Who knows what she will believe?” Sami said. “I just know that grandpa will be happy to claim EJ as his grandson & to finally destroy Stefano & his revenge.” ------------------------ Nicole gazed up at the Christmas tree she, EJ, & Brady had just finished decorating. The three of them had claimed this tree at the Dimera Mansion, the one in the east wing, as their own. EJ & Brady watched her in wonder. “I can’t believe how enchanted she is by the tree,” EJ said. “Reminds me of Sami when we were young. No matter what kind of squabble was going on, the tree always managed to enchant her,” Brady said. “Plus stolen childhoods can do that to you.” “Nicole told me about that, I cannot believe that her father did that to her. He sounds as sick as grandfather,” EJ said. “I’d say as sick as your father as well,” Brady said. “No one but my mother knows who my father truly is,” EJ said. “Or what he is like.” “This has something to do with that note several weeks ago, right?” Brady asked. “More to do with that envelope I got last week from that hospital in London,” EJ said. “I’ve been lied to by my own grandfather. I’m not Stefano’s son, I’m his grandson.” “How did you find that out?” Brady asked. “After those notes we all got, I decided to get my blood tested. My DNA did not match enough with Stefano for him to be my father,” EJ explained. “In fact, the doctor said the DNA that connected him to Stefano was actually a portion of his mitochondrial DNA, the DNA from his mother,” Nicole continued. “So it meant that your mother is Stefano’s daughter?” Brady asked. “Yes, indeed. They were able to connect my DNA to a collection in a London Hospital, where my birth certificate was also on file. They sent me a certified copy of it. It did not list my father, but it did have my mother’s name on it, Megan Hathaway,” EJ explained. “Stefano’s daughter! Ohmigod! You are her child!” Brady exclaimed. “And thus, I am Stefano’s grandson. The real Elvis is who knows where. My real name is Edward James Hathaway. I plan on making sure that grandfather knows that & that he butts out of my life,” EJ explained. “So only your mother would’ve known who your father was, at least that is what you believe,” Brady said. “Between EJ & I, we are looking to see who Megan may have been involved with at the time when EJ was conceived. We hope that gives EJ an answer,” Nicole said. Brady thinks for a moment. “Well, it may have to do with that one line in your note: A family crime avoided.” “But what could that have to do with it?” EJ asked. “A family crime may point & I believe it does, to what you did to Sami,” Brady said. EJ ponders Brady’s point. “So you believe that the family crime avoided could be…oh god…incest? But how? I didn’t avoid it if Sami’s my cousin!” EJ exclaimed. Nicole catches the train of thought. “But what if it wasn’t Sami? What if it was an imposter all this time?” Nicole asked. “And there is only one person who would know the answer to that. And he just arrived here a few days ago,” Brady said. “Eric, of course. He would be the only one to know if this girl is really Sami,” Nicole said. “The thing is, would Eric tell me if it is true or if he would lie to torture me,” EJ said. “And would he be able to also tell us whether or not his uncle Bo was involved at any time with your mother,” Nicole said. “Actually, I can answer that for you,” came a voice from behind them. The group turned to see Tony standing behind them. “And indeed, back during her high school days, Bo & Megan were involved with each other. That was back before Megan found out that she was my half-sister. At the time she still believed that Max Hathaway was her father.” “And it would fit the timeframe for Bo to be his father,” Brady said. “Yes, it would. So does that mean I can no longer call you “little brother”?” Tony asked. “No more little brother. But I am still your nephew,” EJ said. “Of course, Megan’s son. Your mother was such an innocent at the time of her death. I wish she had lived to see what a wise young man her son grew to be,” Tony said. “I wish she had too.” -------------------------- Melisande watched from her computer & smiled. She was glad that the note had prompted EJ to investigate who he truly was. Now he was very near to being able to become a part of the plan to help his cousin get her happiness back. He just needed to do one more thing. “He just needs to denounce the evil of the Dimeras & embrace his Brady family,” Melisande said to Rafe. “And stop going against his own biological uncle,” Rafe said. Melisande laughed at that. “Phillip could use it though. He’s got to learn not to be so ruthless. Victor had taught that lesson to him & it doesn’t realize what it can do to a person.” --------------------------------- Chapter Seven Christmas Eve part two John Black gazed at the Christmas tree in his & Marlena’s wing of the Dimera mansion. He could hardly believe what had transpired in the past few weeks. He turned & gazed at the woman beside him. Diana Colville gazed at the man she loved. She had no idea that missing memories could cause her to return to the man she loved more than anyone in the world. John loved that Diana was back in his life again. Who knew that during the regaining of his memories that he would realize that there was only one other woman other than Isabella that he loved more than Marlena. He & Marlena separated amicably & then Diana, at Eric’s insistence, returned to Salem. Diana had been surprised to have Eric call her & tell her to return to Salem. She had no idea what she was in for. But when she arrived at the airport to find John & Eric waiting for her, John with a bouquet of her favorite flowers in his hand, Diana melted & ran into his arms. She knew that he forgave her for leaving him years before & that he still loved her. Diana was shocked to hear about his history, & who he truly was, but still accepted him for who he was & still after all these years she still loved him. Diana turned & gazed at Eric & his fiancée Taylor Walker sitting on a rug in front of the fire. “Would you look at those two? They look so in love.” “Yes, they do. Eric says we should’ve seen it when she arrived yesterday. He says Nicole nearly exploded when she found out that Taylor & Eric are engaged,” John said. “My big sister admitted that some of it stemmed from what she has been going through recently,” Taylor said. Diana nodded. “I understand. To lose a child they way she did & then finally admitting that she couldn’t hide it anymore.” “At least she still has EJ. And he’s staying by her side & is also in investigative mode after the note he received,” Eric said. “And there is some news on that,” EJ said. They all turned toward he, Nicole, Tony, & Brady as they came into the room. “What kind of news?” Eric asked. EJ held an envelope in his hand out to Eric & Eric took it. He opened it & gazed upon the birth certificate. “Edward James Hathaway, Date of Birth, March 8 1975. No father listed, mother is Megan Hathaway.” Taylor gasped. “You’re not Stefano’s son, & John is not your uncle.” “That’s right. The DNA that matched Stefano was actually part of my mitochondrial DNA. Megan, Stefano’s daughter, is my mother,” EJ said. “The only person you don’t know is your father,” Eric said. “Actually we do have a clue,” Brady said. “Around the time EJ was conceived, his mother was involved with none other than Bo Brady,” Tony said. “So that means that you could be a Brady as well as a Dimera,” Taylor said. “There’s only one problem with that though. If I am Bo’s son, then that means that not only did my cousin…” “She’s not your cousin. I’ve been given permission to tell you that much. The girl that we all believed was Sami is not Sami. She is really Melisande Rossington,” Eric explained. “She’s still his cousin though it is not as close. Melisande is the daughter of Charles Rossington & Eliza Dimera, Andre’s sister. EJ & Melisande are second cousins,” Tony said. “I’ve checked on local law before & second cousins, believe it or not, are allowed to marry so the marriage wasn’t illegal & what you did, EJ, is not considered incest,” Diana said. EJ breathed a sigh of relief at that, but still looked very remorseful. “I still hurt her, though. I still raped her.” EJ turned to Eric. “Do you know where your twin is?” “I do. I’m just not allowed to tell anyone yet. All I can tell you is that she is safe,” Eric said. “Then that is all that matters right now,” EJ said. “I assume that there is a plan to get Sami her life back,” Nicole said. “There is. Eric & I just can’t tell you about it until Melisande says its ok to do so,” Taylor said. --------------------------------- After a few hours decorating their first Christmas tree, Sami & the children got dressed in their nicest new clothes & headed out the door with Megan, Armand, Reyna & her fiancé Alexander Lorenzo. They all got into the limo & headed off to the cathedral for midnight mass. The triplets were in awe of the massive cathedral. Together, the family Wells-Brady took up a pew near the center & listened to the choir as they sang Christmas Carols & Hymns in French. Sami managed to follow along fairly well, especially since she had improved in her knowledge of French, German, & Italian while she lived at the convent. She was nearly fluent in both French & German, but her Italian was not as good. The triplets were nowhere near as fluent as she was, but it helped them to create a mix between the four languages to speak to each other to confuse others who didn’t know any better. The triplets managed to fall asleep during the mass & it took Sami, Reyna, & Armand to carry them out & back to the limo afterwards. Of course, Alexander followed behind them. “It’s hard to believe that you are an American, Sami, considering how well you speak French,” he told her. “My three, more than three, years at a Swiss convent made me fairly fluent in French & German, & somewhat fluent in Italian. Can’t wait to show that off to Stefano. I can curse at him in his native language,” Sami said. “I’m glad that Melisande got us involved in her plan. I can’t wait to bust my grandfather for everything that he has done to your family & for what he also did to EJ & us,” Reyna said. “Hopefully EJ will repent for everything he has done under father’s influence so that he can embrace his Brady side,” Megan said. “Alex! It’s time to go!” came the voice of Alexander’s half-sister Anastasia. Alexander shook his head for a moment until his mother’s voice rang through the air. “Leave him alone, you witchchild! He is where he is supposed to be!” Reyna shook her head. “I hate when your mom calls her that.” “Ana deserves it at times. She knows she’s not supposed to yell at me like that,” Alexander said. Sami’s eyes widened at that. “Does your mother believe that much in the old ways? That your sister is not important?” she asked. “My mom doesn’t care about Ana because she is not her daughter. Ana’s mom seduced my dad & tried to get him to divorce my mother,” Alexander explained. “After Gretchen found out about the seduction, she sent the woman, Mercredi, away from his father. Ana was allowed to be raised in their home & she is not allowed to see her mother at all,” Reyna continued. “Mercredi does write to Ana about helping her get back to France so she can seduce father again, & try to take him away from mother, but is refused time & again. Every letter my mother believes contains a spell, the spell she believes that Mercredi cast upon my father & that she has passed on to Ana. Mother says Mercredi is a witch & therefore Ana is a witchchild,” Alexander said. “How is that possible? How can Mercredi be a witch?” Sami asked. “Mercredi is descended from a long line of voodoo priestesses & is originally from the Island of Martinique. Over two hundred years ago, one of her ancestors, Angelique, caused a lot of trouble in a small town in Maine. She was hung as a witch when her crimes were finally discovered. Sadly, thanks to her, one family lost both their eldest sons,” Megan said. “And a young woman was falsely accused of witchcraft because of her. The woman in question was flung into that time because of a séance. The woman she replaced took her place at the noose just in time to save her from death. She married the cursed brother several years ago, finally breaking Angelique’s curse,” Alexander continued. “What kind of curse?” “She turned him into a vampire, a true creature of the night, so he would not be able to wed his true love. Her soul was reborn into the woman he married & together, after two hundred years, their love was able to break the curse,” Alexander said. “Are you two talking about us again?” came a female voice at that moment. They all turned to see the dark haired young woman standing with a dark-haired young man who appared to be in his early 30’s, but was actually much older. “Hello, Victoria, Barnabas. It is good to see you again. And yes, we had to explain about Mercredi & your story is intertwined in that,” Reyna said. “Of course. And that witch still won’t leave us alone,” Barnabas said. The familiar cackle came at that moment, irritating everyone around. “I will never stop haunting you, Barnabas.” -------------------- Chapter Eight Christmas Eve Part Three They all turned to see Angelique’s evil spirit hovering over them. Barnabas frowned. He & Victoria had broken the curse, yet his ultimate nemesis still wouldn’t leave them alone. Sami looked up at the spirit of the witch with a smile on her face. She knew that Angelique could help her get her life back. Of course, that was only if Angelique was willing to help her. For Angelique, helping Sami could be her redemption, her saving grace. “Angelique, can’t you just leave us alone? We broke your curse a long time ago,” Victoria said. Angelique cackled. “If only I could. But I am stuck wandering & haunting. And I like haunting you, Barnabas, & your children.” “What if there was a way for you to be redeemed? Would you go for that, dear Angelique?” Megan asked, getting Sami’s train of thought. “A redemption that would lead you to your true soulmate, a chance to live again,” Sami said. “If there would be a chance for that, I would take it,” Angelique said. “What do you have in mind?” “To start, can you become a solid being or are you stuck being a ghost?” Sami asked. “Let me see if I can still do it,” Angelique said before she began to become a solid person again. A moment later, Angelique stood before them in a blood-red dress very similar to Sami’s. “Good. Now you need to come with us & we will explain what you can do to redeem yourself,” Sami said. --------------------------- Midnight mass in Salem was always well attended. Everyone in town showed up for mass & sometimes additional family members managed to arrive in town for mass. Such was the case for the Hortons this year, as Jeremy, Mike, & Robin had come to town to spend Christmas with their family. Jeremy had his head back on straight, thanks to Robin, & she & Mike had decided to give their love another chance. This time, Robin was the one who made the sacrifice & was becoming Catholic. When Jeremy had first arrived back in Salem, he had gone straight to Stephanie & apologized for everything he had done before he had left. He had told her that he didn’t expect her to forgive him, but that he was truly sorry for everything he had done. She told him that she may never forgive him, but was glad that we was able to get his head on straight again & that he & his parents were home. Eric, Taylor, John, Diana, EJ, Nicole, Tony, & Anna entered the church together doing their best to appear as a true family. The group went & sat behind the rest of the Brady clan, which this Christmas included Caroline, Roman & Marlena, Bo & Hope along with little Ciara, Kayla, Steve, Stephanie, & Little Joe, Chelsea, Kimberly, Andrew & Jeannie. Brady joined them a moment later. Mass began has it always did. Eric held the hand of his fiancée while looking over at Nicole & EJ. It was actually easy to believe that EJ was his cousin. EJ actually looked an awful lot like Bo. EJ insisted that blood tests be done to prove that he was a Brady. Eric just felt sorry for them, for the fact that they had lost a child. After mass, John, Eric, Taylor, Nicole, Diana, & EJ gathered further away from the crowd. They had a lot to discuss. “If Sami is alive & elsewhere, shouldn’t we be doing our best to separate Lucas & Chloe?” Nicole asked. “No. The plan comes to fruition on their wedding day, at their wedding. Trust me, Sami & Melisande are setting it all up,” Eric said. “Of course. Those notes we got. That was part of their plan,” EJ said in realization. “They were actually Melisande’s idea. She wrote those notes to throw people off their game or to restore connections, like with John’s note,” Taylor said. “I’m thankful for her for doing that. She is the one responsible for helping restore my memory & my feelings for both Doc & Diana. I’m just glad that Roman & Marlena are working things out,” John said. “So am I. Stefano’s plans are finally coming to an end, whether he likes it or not,” Eric said. ----------------------- Back at the Wells Estate, after the children had been put in bed, the adults discussed what Angelique could do to redeem herself. “I agree, it is an excellent plan. Plus, just looking at your stepbrother’s photo, Sami, I felt drawn to him. Maybe all along, he was my soulmate,” Angelique said. “Well, I guess we’ll have to see about that. But when you first arrive in Salem, find my brother Eric, since he knows the plan. If Brady ends up being drawn to you, then you can be with him. No pulling what you did with Barnabas, got it!” “No problem. I will do only what is necessary to help get you your happiness,” Angelique said. “You’d better. No taking liberties or using your powers, unless it’s to scare Chloe,” Sami said. “Oh, I have a few ideas for her & for Kate. She deserves a major punishment for what she did to you,” Angelique said. “Nothing to damaging yet. Just something that will throw her off her guard. Unless you really want to throw Kate off the docks. That woman deserves a good dunking,” Sami said. Angelique giggled. “That sounds like fun. That will teach Kate a lesson. I will keep my eye out for her & throw her in the river or fountains any chance I get.” Then she thought for a second. “Or throw her into mud puddles.” Sami laughed. “Good idea. You have my permission to throw both women into mud puddles, but only Kate gets the water treatment.” “Agreed. We don’t want to drown Chloe yet. We want her to make it to her ceremony, but for that ceremony to come to an abrupt end,” Angelique said. “Exactly. Melisande’s plan won’t work if Chloe drowns before the ceremony,” Megan said from her chair. “But Kate can drown. She deserves it for everything she did to Lucas & I. Plus, it will keep her from interfering with the plan,” Sami said. “Of course. If she happens to find out about Chloe’s love for the good doctor Jonas & tries to tell anyone about it, I will make sure that she can’t say a word about it. I will keep her quiet,” Angelique said. “Knowing Kate, she already knows. But knowing Lucas the way I do, he probably isn’t listening. By now he’s finally cut the strings of her attention of him. At least, that’s what Eric told me,” Sami said. “Good. Then my making her get splashed, dunked, or mud splattered will just insure that he won’t listen to her. I won’t drown her yet, not until after the “Wedding”,” Angelique said. “Reyna, you’ll go along with Angelique & make contact with your brother. You have to get him ready to take part in the plan. He must embrace his Brady family & let go of the evil of the Dimeras,” Sami said. “Of course. I will point him to the truth, if he hasn’t found it yet. It’s the only way that it will work,” Reyna said. “Angelique, you will also have to keep an eye out for Stefano himself. He will do anything he can to protect his family as he sees them. He must finally be prepared to pay for his crimes. And he must do no harm to anyone in my family. You must make sure of that,” Sami said. “I will. That man shall pay for his sins against your family & for his sins against his own,” Angelique said. “Another thing you must watch out for when it comes to Stefano is that he is considered a phoenix. He wears a phoenix ring that has brought him back to life numerous times,” Sami told her. “I know that ring. It does have very mystic powers, especially when worn by the seventh son of the seventh son. But its powers are even stronger when it is worn by a non-phoenix female. A barren woman would have her ability to bear children restored with the ring. A cancer stricken woman could be cured of cancer by wearing that ring. The power of the ring is amazing in the hands of a non-phoenix female,” Angelique said. “Sounds like that ring should be given to Nicole so that she & EJ can have children of their own. Apparently her miscarriage left her unable to bear children,” Sami said. “Of course. I will do my best to get that ring away from Stefano & give it to Nicole. I can’t remove it from Stefano using my powers, since the power of the ring is beyond them, but I will figure out a way,” Angelique said. “No seducing the old man. That would be taking it too far,” Megan said. “Nice. What a way to talk about your father,” Angelique said. “He deserves it. We’ll see what happens once you get there,” Megan said.
