Arianne Zucker is Salem's best and most entertaining vixen. Having portrayed Nicole Walker on Days of our Lives since 1998, she's emerged as the villain we all love to hate. The scheming, gold-digging, seductress keeps the men of Salem on their toes with her undeniable charm and enticing persona. She's famous for behaving badly.

Zucker, an actor, jewellery designer and humanitarian is as multi-layered as her Days alter ego, with few other similarities between them. Zucker gave us a candid interview dishing the goods on Nicole's bad girl antics, being married to former Days star Kyle Lowder and the joys of first-time motherhood.

You play one of Salem's most entertaining characters, Nicole Walker. What's it like playing a villain?

It's fantastic. It's like a dream job. Nobody wants to be a good girl. The nice thing is that if you've had a bad day you can take it out on your character, or with your character.

Your character, Nicole, does everything and anything to get her way. Are you at all like your character in real life?

No, thank God. But I have to say I love my character very much and I have such a good time playing her. I can never say ‘oh my character would never do this.' Because you never know what she's going to do. It's hysterical because I'll read the script and I'll go ‘well here we go. I've got to make this work.' It's really fun. Nicole is so street smart but she thinks really small. She thinks in the moment but doesn't think big picture. I, on the other hand will think big picture. I'm not a rule breaker. I'm completely opposite of that.

I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of person, and she likes heels and fancy clothing, although right now she's poor. We're completely opposite but that makes her even more fun to play.

What do you think is the most shocking thing that Nicole has ever done?

I think the most shocking thing she did was when she first came to Salem. She broke it off with the love of her life to marry Lucas for $5 million. I was like, “Really, she chose money over love? You poor soul.”

What's it like working with James Scott (EJ DiMera) and playing ex lovers who despise each other?

It's really exciting now because we still believe there's a pain level there, that the two characters have never been able to resolve. So every time we see each other, I think there's still that unresolved painful blow up. The great thing about working with James is that we really like to play in the moment. We don't waste our surprise during our rehearsal together. So I really like that aspect of working with James, the element of surprise. We have a really good time having those explosive scenes.

You have a really explosive relationship with Alison Sweeney's character, Sami on set.

Always. [Laughter]

What is your relationship like on and off set?

She's so busy, so when she's here, it's really really fun. For the past three months I haven't had a chance to really see her because I'll work in the morning and she'll be there late in the afternoon which is a bit of a bummer. We have such a history as friends, on top of being co-workers. When we do get together and have scenes together, I think we have really great chemistry. We have such a good time, and when we read the scripts we like to heighten the stake, and get really excited about it. We have a really good relationship especially when it comes to work, because it's our first priority. We call ourselves Sole (Sami and Nicole). I don't know if we have a fan page or not but we definitely try to push our Sole.

You left Days of our Lives for two years, and now you're back. What made you want to come back to Salem?

I was asked to come back. I thought I would give it another shot. I had gone through two years of a really intense acting workshops and I changed a lot as an actor. It's always nice when someone wants you to come back and work somewhere so I took that opportunity and I chose to take this character. Over the years I think she was hated a lot more, now I think you love to hate her. And that's been a really fun challenge for me, going to different heights with her as soon as I came back to the show. Everything I do, I try to make a huge challenge for myself, and hope that the viewers love what I'm doing.

What it's like being married to Kyle Lowder, another actor. Was it love at first sight?

No, not really. I knew him for about a year and a half, I mean he was the last person I ever expected. Nobody really knew we were dating when we did start dating. But at the time he was 20 and I was 26, so there was a big age difference, nothing huge but six years is still six years. But he's really mature for his age. He's like 92 in his soul and I'm 15, so it's a balance.

What was it like working with him everyday?

It was great. We have such a good time together. I mean sometimes, it's like wow, we wake up together, we go to work together, we go home together. You find new things about each other to keep it exciting because you do spend all that time together, but that was so long ago.

How has your life changed since you became parents in 2009?

It's better! It takes a lot of the selfishness off of you and puts it onto somebody else. There's nothing more inspiring and special than that.

Tell me a bit about your jewellery line, Lowd Suga, how did that project come about?

That came when I left the show and a girlfriend of mine had made me quite a few pieces for birthdays and what not. We were just messing around and I had some more time to open a company. We sat down and talked and strategized and we opened up a business. Ever since I was a kid, I loved to create something for my mum, and I thought what a great way to do something that I loved. It's very rewarding to have that time to myself and not think about anything but what I'm creating. I really enjoy that aspect of it, and it's been fun creating stuff for my character as well. It's just peaceful.

What can we expect from Nicole in the next few weeks?

Well, disaster follows Nicole everywhere she goes. There's always some kind of mess that she gets herself into, so definitely expect more of that coming up. She's causing turmoil in somebody's life.

Thanks for posting! Awesome interview. I love Ari and I adore Sole! Glad to see her refer to Eric as the love of Nicole's life, I always thought that. Hopefully they are planning to recast Sami's twin so Nicole can reunite with him. I really don't want her with EJ, I just want him dead.

I love Nicole/Ari. I wish she'd won her Emmy this year. She was the best part of the whole Sydney storyline.

I freaking love Nicole. The way Ari plays her is amazing.

And nothing gets better than Sole when it comes to friendships. My favorite of theirs is still when they were scheming to get the tapes out of Eugenia's apt that proved sami was innocent
