Since it sounds like there are some others who will be as new to GH as me and others who are returning after a long absence, I put together a list of some of the main characters that are currently on the show and what is going on with them. I did the best I could with this in hopes that those of you more familiar with GH can correct anything I messed up and/or add what I missed.

Edward & Monica Quartermaine – The Quartermaine family seems to be the founding family for the show and Edward is the patriarch. On screen family members are: Tracy Spencer, Jason Morgan, Michael Corinthos.

Luke & Tracy Spencer – Luke owns a bar, is good friends with mobster Sonny Corinthos and seems to have many other shady acquaintances as well. He has 2 children with ex-wife Laura, Lucky and Lulu and a newly discovered grown son, Ethan from an affair.

Lucky Spencer – is a cop. He is interested in remarrying Elizabeth Webber who has 2 young sons that apparently are not Lucky’s biological children but who he sees as his own and who see him as their dad. Elizabeth is telling Lucky that she wants a life with him and their sons but has been having an affair with Lucky’s half-brother, Nikolas Cassadine. This past week Lucky overheard Nikolas tell Elizabeth that he loves her. Lucky asked Elizabeth about it thinking that it was just Nikolas who has been pursuing Elizabeth and she let Lucky keep thinking that rather than telling him the full truth.

Lulu Spencer – is best friends with Maxie Jones and they both work for a fashion magazine – Kate is their boss. Lulu is interested in Dante Falconieri (sp?) though she has been denying it for a while. She knows that Dante is really an undercover cop who is pretending to work for Sonny as “Dominic”. This past week, Lulu was kidnapped by the psycho artist Franco as part of Franco’s plan to mess with Jason Morgan by making him choose who to save, Sam McCall or Lulu. Jason couldn’t do both, so he called Dante who rushed to save Lulu, while Jason went for Sam… that was the big Friday cliffhanger.. so Monday should be good.

Ethan Spencer – Ethan came to town as a con artist. It was later revealed that he is Luke’s son through an affair he had while married to Laura. It seems that the stage is being set for a friendship between Ethan and Kristina Corinthos.

Nikolas Cassadine – half-brother of Lucky and Lulu Spencer; having an affair with Lucky’s love interest Elizabeth Webber.

Jason Morgan – Sonny’s second in command; in a love affair with Sam McCall; best friend of Carly Jacks (Sonny’s ex-wife); godfather to Carly’s children; friend and roommate with Damien Spinelli. Current storyline is that a psycho killer and artist named Franco has been following Jason’s hit man career for some time and knows that Michael Corinthos is the one who killed Claudia Zacchara (sp?) and is holding that over Jason’s head. This week, Franco executed his plan to make Jason choose between saving two people he cares about.

Sonny Corinthos – mob boss and father of Michael and Morgan by ex-wife Carly Jacks and Kristina by Alexis Davis. Sonny married Claudia Zacchara as part of some truce deal with that rival mob family. Claudia tried to have Sonny killed but Michael was shot instead. Michael was in a coma for a year. When Sonny finally found out that Claudia was responsible, he confronted her about it and Claudia took Carly hostage (who was pregnant). Carly gave birth to baby Josselyn (sp?) and Claudia planned to take the baby and go on the run. Michael found his mother first and came in just as Claudia was about to leave with the baby; he killed Claudia. Even though it was self defense, Jason hid the body and got rid of the evidence (or so he thought).

Carly & Jasper Jacks – have a new baby girl (who the audience actually gets to see and she is precious). Jacks not only knows that Dante is an undercover cop but also that Sonny is Dante’s father (a little fact that even Dante doesn’t know). Jacks has been doing a lot behind Carly’s back to build a case against Sonny that could put him in jail.

Michael Corinthos – teen son of Carly and Sonny (adopted by Sonny but the biological son of AJ Quartermaine), has been struggling a lot, first with trying to readjust after being in a coma and next with the knowledge that he killed his stepmother.

Morgan Corinthos – pre-teen son of Carly and Sonny, just a good, happy kid.

Alexis Davis – (played by Nancy Grahn, Julia from Santa Barbara) is the D.A. She is a Cassadine and Nikolas’ aunt. She has 3 daughters, Sam McCall, Kristina Corinthos and Molly Lansing. Kristina & Molly are determined to fix Alexis up with Port Charles’ top cop Mac Scorpio. Alexis’ best friend, Diane Miller is Sonny’s attorney and dating Max, one of Sonny’s associates.

Sam McCall – Alexis gave birth to Sam as a teenager and was forced to give her up for adoption. Sam runs a detective agency with Spinelli and is in a love affair with Jason Morgan.

Kristina Corinthos – teen daughter of Alexis & Sonny. She caused a car wreck that killed Claudia’s unborn baby (Sonny was the father). She is dating Keifer, an abusive rich punk who has all the adults fooled into thinking he is a good guy but he has already hit Kristina several times.

Molly Lansing – pre-teen daughter of Alexis & Ric Lansing. She’s a smart, funny kid and already a hopeless romantic.

Mac Scorpio – high ranking cop but I’m not sure of his title; “stand in father” to Maxie Jones; uncle of Robin Scorpio; may be on the way to a romance with Alexis.

Patrick & Robin Scorpio Drake – are both doctors, married with a young daughter, Emma. Patrick’s old college flame, also a doctor, just moved to town.

Damian Spinelli & Maxie Jones – have a “non marriage”. Spinelli wanted to marry, Maxie didn’t, their planned wedding became a “non-wedding” where they agreed to continue an exclusive love affair but not marry. Maxie (played by Kirsten Storms, first Belle…but try not to hold that against her, I find Maxie much more likeable) is obsessed with fashion and her job at a fashion magazine. She recently had a one night stand with Franco. Spinelli knows and is devastated, but they are working on rebuilding their relationship. Spinelli is a unique individual with distinctive dialogue. He is a computer whiz who is a partner in Sam’s detective agency but also works for Jason quite often. He and Jason are roommates, while Maxie remains roommates with Lulu.

Olivia Falconieri (sp?) – seems to be a business partner with Carly (not sure if it is a restaurant, hotel, or both); she and Sonny knew each other as kids/teens and they have a son together (Dante) that she never told Sonny about. She has also never told Dante that Sonny is his father even though she knows that Dante is actively working to bring down Sonny’s organization.

Dante Falconieri – undercover cop pretending to be “Dominic”; he has become a trusted member of Sonny’s organization. When Friday’s show ended, he had just arrived at the warehouse where Lulu is strapped to a bomb with just seconds to go before detonation… Monday is must see!

Johnny Zacharra – son of the Zacharra mob boss who is currently in prison. He was close to his now deceased sister, Claudia. Johnny has recently learned what really happened to Claudia; he knows that Franco has evidence against Michael and that Franco dug up Claudia’s body and moved it somewhere else. Johnny and Olivia were a romantic pair but currently on the outs. He knows that Dante is Olivia’s son and that Dante is working undercover and I think he knows that Sonny is Dante’s father but I could be mistaken about that part. At any rate, Johnny knows a lot about several people that he has reason to want revenge against.

Great Overview! Let's see what else I can add:

Franco: Played by James Franco will be exiting the scene shortly he is a deranged artist that supposingly creates death scenes as art that are later imitated by someone. And he has dome obsession with Jason and his life as a mob enforcer. He is leaving town with everything up in chaos, at the moment Jason thinks that Franco dug up Claudia(Sonny's wife that Michael killed) body and has stolen it to taunt Jason.

Coleman: A moustache wearing gigilio that runs Jake's a hole in the wall bar that a lot of the Port Charles patrons frequent. Has been seen lately locking lips with the one and only Kate Howard. He is a hysterical.

Kate Howard- formally known as Connie Falconari, the cousin of Olivia. She left the "old" neighborhood and re-invented herself into the head of the largest fashion magazine in the country. Was fired from said magazine once her past came out and her relationship with Sonny (her high school flame) was resparked. She then started her own magazine, Crimson, with the fnacial backing of Jax where she employs Maxie Jones and Lulu Spencer. (GH's version of The Devil Wears Prada)

Dr. Matt Hunter, played by Jason Cook, the original Shawn D. He is Patrick Drake's half brother and at the moment does not have a storyline. They have not attempted a pairing with him and Kirsten, but who knows. Apparantly there will be something coming up for him, the speculation is possibly something with Patrick's ex flame, Lisa, that has just rolled into town.

There isn't anyone on GH that I find unwatchable. Certainly there are characters that I prefer over others, but it's one show that I can usually watch without feeling the urge to fast forward except anything but commercials.

I like that they are showing Lulu, Sam, Jason, Lucky, etc. all still shaken up from the near death experience instead of just quickly moving on to something else.

Okay, is there a real danger that Lucky might harm Nicolas or is that just the usual soap red herring? It doesn't seem like something Lucky would do but I don't know his history like some of you do. I actually like both of the brothers and I'm have trouble understanding why either would want Elizabeth (but then I don't know much about her past either and this could just be a bad phase for her).

It really was, I hate this storyline and I miss Greg but Jonathan Jackson really rocked those scenes. I'm really loving Dante and Lulu which is really surprising me cuz I've hated Lulu for such a long time and never thought I'd like her but something about them has got me hooked, they are so cute together! I'm wondeirng what's gonna happen after it's revealed that he's Sonny's son, I think it's gonna be great.

I don't understand how Carly can be worried about her cousin and trying to get Jason to take back his kid from Lucky at the same time. At least it sounds like Jason isn't going to agree.

Thanks for explaining that. I was wondering about Jax's conversation with Dante today when he said that Carly might get past him helping to put Sonny in jail but she would never forgive him for doing anything to Jason. I wasn't sure if Jax was just saying that to explain himself to Dante or if it was really true.
