I would dearly love to find the interview where Ali told SOD that they did Santos and Colleen because they were NEVER going with ***** and they hoped that story would satisfy the fans. Does anyone have a copy they could scan...or even just type up??

AND am I remembering it right? Isn't that what Ali said??

I vaguely recall that. Have you been searching our msn archives? I was just in our 2007 archives and came across something else interesting. It's from my day ahead live posting on May 21, 2007. Lumi were on their honeymoon in NOLA and Elvis was with Celeste. Check this out:

It was referred to as rape repeatedly in articles and also in onscreen dialogue for well over a year ... even in the dialogue between Sami and EJ right before the unspeakable event in May 2008. It was after the fallout from having Sami sleep with her rapist that the show thought they could get away with it if they just steered clear of the "R word" and of course that never worked.

No.
Plenty of fans made the same observation at the time, but it wasn't a fan who was quoted in the article.

Im still looking for the interview that stuck out on my mind.. it comes from an interview with Tommie Casiello by Toups at SON in Feb 2008.

Here's a quote I found

"I stand by this - at no point were Sami and EJ a romantic couple while we were writing. EJ may be in love with Sami, but Sami hates EJ. However, she also sees herself in him. So there's a strange compassion she has for him, knowing what it's like to act out, to lie, to manipulate. Sami drugged Austin and slept with him! She's been in EJ's shoes, willing to do anything to get what she wants. She's outgrown that, but she sees in EJ the person she would be if it weren't for the love of Lucas and her family. But she's never once thought for one second she was in love with him."


That tells me that the romantic pairing was never in the cards just that SAmi thought that EJ made her be reminded what a horrible person she used to be and how Lucas' love and Will's love made her a better person.

Here's another quote
Casiello: "Look, rape is rape. Period. EJ raped Sami."

Casiello isn't someone I ever quote. The man changes his story with the wind. If he wants the rapemies to suck up to him he says that Rapemi won them over. If he wants the sane fans on his side he says Rapemi was never in the cards. I have no use for the man or for his boss Hogan Sheffer.

I guess but he still said it and he wrote it. I don't know how the Rapemis saw a love story because I didn't see it. Am I wrong because if I wasn't shipping a couple and didn't visit the message boards than I would have hated Days after Jan of 2008 till now.

People can change. At some point, the issue of the rape is going to have to be dealt with in the fundamental way, but meanwhile, there is the audience that wants to see EJ and Sami together. [But] they aren’t forgetting about the rape, either.”

At this point, Sami is unaware that EJ is a dead ringer for Santo, as she is Colleen. “I’m not thinking of her as Sami and him As EJ: I have to play it as a different story.” Explains Sweeney. “She doesn’t see it as any sort of reflection on her relationship with EJ at all.”

The dual roles required that the actors work intensively with a dialect coach; Sweeney to handle an Irish brogue, Scott to learn an Italian accent. “My first reaction was utter, complete fear.” confesses the actress. “It’s all well and good to do a second role, but to have to do an Irish accent and play a character from the ‘50’s? The only thing that preoccupied me from the moment they told me is ‘I don’t want to look like a fool on television and I don’t know how I’m going to have the time, but I have to learn how to do this accent.’ It really scared me but now I’m starting to feel more confident with it.”
